On the edge of the High Fens, where the wind blows across the moorland and there is sometimes snow in winter, lies Malmedy: a cosy town with its own carnival, fluffy "baisers" and an old abbey full of stories. From London it is just under 6 hours' driving via the Channel Tunnel, plus the 35-minute crossing, and we have already done the research.

By Arjan Zuur · figures checked on 21 October 2026, prices 22 October 2026, route from London 24 October 2026 · About us

You walk along the boardwalks of the High Fens at the Signal de Botrange, visit the fairy-tale castle of Reinhardstein and paddle by the waterfalls of Coo. The abbey of Stavelot with the circuit museum is a quarter of an hour away.

Below you will find the route, four places you do not want to miss, the 2026 prices, three hotels with wellness and local tips.
