Into the sauna after a day walking in the forests, or in your own hot tub under the stars in the evening: a cottage with wellness makes an Ardennes weekend something special. We found out what to watch out for so you do not get any surprises afterwards.

In this guide we bring together three things: what types of wellness you find in the Ardennes, how a private cottage differs from a holiday park, and how the extra costs (electricity, heating, firewood) work that you sometimes pay separately at Belgian gîtes.

Sauna, jacuzzi or hot tub just for you, as at Villa Faro (barrel sauna and jacuzzi), La Maison Blanche (indoor pool, sauna, spa) or Le Trésor de Han (outdoor jacuzzi, infrared sauna).

Private wellness by the hour

You rent a wellness area for a time slot. At the Hôtel Panorama in Bouillon that is 1 h 30 min for € 89 (max. 4 people); the wellness area is closed up to and including 31 October 2026.

Hotel wellness

Shared wellness area for hotel guests, sometimes at an extra charge. At Le Sanglier des Ardennes in Durbuy you book 2 hours, not included in the room rate; at the R Hotel in Remouchamps the wellness area is 900 m².

Thermal baths

The Thermes de Spa: 800 m² of baths, 3 hours from € 31 (weekdays after 5.30 pm). Children under 15 are not admitted.

⚖️ Private cottage or holiday park?

In the Ardennes, Landal has the Resort Val de Bois in Durbuy, among others, with a Wellness Lodge for 4 people (type 4BW1) with its own hot tub and barrel sauna, and the Nature Parc Saint Hubert with tiny houses and a wood-fired Finnish sauna. EuroParcs has two parks in Belgium, Zilverstrand (Mol) and Hoge Kempen (Zutendaal), and neither is in the Ardennes.

Worked example: the weekend of 20 to 22 November 2026

To compare like with like, on 22 October 2026 we checked what three addresses with private wellness cost for a fixed weekend (Friday to Sunday, 2 nights).

Prices as shown by the providers on 22 October 2026, excluding tourist tax. For Luna and Le Castelain this is the fixed weekend rate; we did not check whether these dates are still available. So at Landal you pay per lodge for up to 4 people, at the other two for 2.

⚡ Energy surcharge at gîtes: how it works

This is where most people get a fright. With Belgian holiday homes, the extra costs (water, electricity, heating) can be included in the price in three ways, writes Gîtes de Wallonie: they are included, they are fixed per night, or they are charged according to your consumption. The tourist tax differs per municipality and is paid on site.

The rental organisation Ardennes-étape explains how charging by consumption works: the meter readings are taken on arrival and departure, you pay at the end of your stay, usually in cash to the owner, and the estimate you see beforehand is only a guideline.

A real-life example: the description of Le Trésor de Han says firewood is charged by use (bellegite.com). A wood-fired hot tub or a wood sauna can then add up considerably.

Checklist before you book

Which of the three forms applies? Is it in the rental conditions?
Does the consumption of the hot tub, sauna or pool count? Is the pool heated all year? (Villa Faro: outdoor pool from 1 May to 30 September.)
Is there a deposit, and how is it refunded?
How much is the tourist tax in the municipality?
Do you have to pay in cash?
